BIKE SAFETY: Sitka Community Hospital health educator Patrick Williams shows students at Baranof Elementary School how to adjust a bike helmet during a May 22 presentation at the school. The Sitka Community Hospital Injury Prevention program teamed up with the Sitka School District’s Live-Well Program to distribute 150 bike helmets to local elementary school students in an effort to reduce head trauma rates in Sitka. WORK HONORED: Sitka Health Summit Coalition members Ellen Daly, left, and Penny Lehmann, both Sitka Public Health Nurses, present Sitka Bicycle Friendly Community Coalition coordinator Charles Bingham with a certificate on May 22 honoring him for his volunteer work coordinating a variety of events during National Bike Month in May. Charles helped compile information for Sitka’s initial application to be a Bicycle Friendly Community in 2008 (bronze award as Alaska’s first BFC), and wrote the renewal application in 2012 (bronze award).
